Slickshot nipples & helping hand
William Horsley - 03/13/2022
I'm very happy with my purchases of the slickshot nipples and helping hand work great! The slickshot nipples were a perfect fit for my pieta 1851 Sheriff's 5 1/2 inch model and 1858 Sheriff's 5 1/2 inch. I used a cheap nipple wrench with no problem but plan to buy slickshot nipple wrench. I highly recommend these products . Sincerely William Horsley

I have a dragoon and a navy.
The nipples really put the fun back into shooting..no trouble with caps being uncooperative! Especially like the high quality wrench. Absolutely perfect.
Extremely durable. Good purchase!
Thank you!
Good stuff.

Installation was a snap. My number 11 CCI caps fit snugly and won't dislodge even under violent shaking. I tried to jiggle them loose but they kept on keeping on.
Great product!

Bought a new Walker for Xmas and as expected, I averaged 1 misfire every 6-rounds. Lots of googling and the Slixprings Nipples kept coming up as recommended first upgrade, which I did. This past weekend, ran 18 rounds through "Smokey" and no misfires. Additionally, the percussion caps more cleanly left the nipples after firing. Very pleased...
Nipples

Work reliably in my 1860. No improvement on my 1851/44 cal. Caps still jam the cylinder and/or hammer.
Superior

Product is excellent; sales experience was superior.
Great upgrade to my colt dragoon
Old Dragoon - 03/04/2022
Excellent customer service, fast shipping. Easy installation and excellent results, more complete powder burn and no caps causing cylinder turn or dropping down the hammer well.
Great product

Slixshot nipples

I recently got a Pietta 51 Navy. My #11 caps which are all I could find would stay on the nipples. I swapped them out for Slixshots which worked perfectly.
Simply the best.

My second set. I have 2 black powder revolvers and purchased a set for both. Easy to install and makes shooting a lot more fun. Highly recommend.
These nipples do the job!
RobH41 - 02/20/2022
Replaced all my BP revolver nipples with these and virtually eliminated "fall offs" and debris jams. They are for real as cap problem solvers.
Works great

OUTSTANDING customer service. I ended up having a 1858 Lyman/Uberti pistol that did not use standard Uberti style powder nipples. Patrick worked with me to isolate just what I had and sent me what I needed. Thanks again Patrick!!!
Product Review
John Taffin - 02/06/2022
I do not feel hampered by carrying a percussion pistol afield making sure it is one which is as totally reliable as possible first. There is no guarantee of 100% reliability even with cartridge firing revolvers, however there are several things which can be done to make our cap and ball revolver as reliable as possible. I purchased one of the first Ruger Old Armies way back in 1972. It would be difficult to find any percussion pistol more reliable than this one. It served me for over 40 years with never a problem. However, about five years ago when I was getting ready to shoot this particular old Army in the Idaho State & Territorial Muzzleloader Match I started getting misfires. The Old Army was originally designed to allow it to be dry-fired. That is without a cap on the nipple this Ruger was built with such precision that the firing pin on the hammer did not contact the nipple unless there was percussion cap in between. Over the many years I used it either the nipples had become worn, which I doubt, or caps were now thinner than they used to be. The solution was to replace the nipples with aftermarket, high quality stainless steel ones. That modification was enough for the Old Army to take first place.

Now it is my routine to automatically replace the factory nipples on any new percussion revolver which comes into my hands. These stainless steel Slix-Shots as they are called come from SliXprings. They are shaped differently than the factory nipples, which are also called cones, and they have a smaller charge hole as well as a small vent hole on the side. They are made to accept #10 Remington or #11 CCI percussion caps. Pietta and Uberti nipples have different thread patterns so replacement nipples must be ordered for the specific brand. These high quality nipples sell for $36 for a complete set of six for most sixguns except replica Walker and Dragoon nipples are
$40 and the five-shot pocket pistols nipples are slightly different and currently run $30 for a set. These are the prices as this is written, however inflation seems to be running rampant now.

With the original factory cones, caps will often be found to be too tight which means they don’t seat properly and this can cause misfires, or they are too lose and fall off the nipple when the sixgun is fired. The Slix-Shots are made to fit as perfectly as possible. One of the problems with shooting percussion pistols is cap jams, that is a fired percussion cap comes off the nipple falls into the action and prevents cocking the hammer and/or firing the next chamber.
One of the causes of this is hammer blowback. This means when the pistol is fired pressure blows the hammer back far enough to allow the cap to split and fall into the action. The main way to prevent this is to install these quality nipples. There are three other things which can aid this also. First make sure the face of the hammer is smooth with no burrs to grab spent percussion caps and pull them off the nipple when the hammer is cocked for the next shot.
The face of Remington hammers are solid but it is a good idea to check them and make sure they are smooth using emery paper or a file if they are not. The Colt hammers can be a larger problem as they have an opening at the base which contacts the safety pin on the back of the cylinder. This opening slot needs to be checked carefully and any burrs or sharp edges removed.
To big
Lyle Adams - 02/06/2022
The description says CCI #11 fit. The nipples are to big. CCI #11 required extra pressure to fit on the nipples. Some only fire on the second strike, indicating that the caps are not completely seated. I like the design of the nipples, quality control is lacking.

Reply from Slixprings:

Sorry to hear they didn’t perform for you. The problem is not the nipples as these are made on high quality CNC machines and our tolerances are exact. The issue is the quality or age of the caps you are using. We’ve seen this before with Older CCI #11 caps. Get some New caps and this problem will go away. The other issue might be your cylinder to barrel gap is too big or your hammer spring is too light. More than likely though it's the older caps you are using.

Excellent

I liked them so much on my 1858 Remmington that I added them to my Colt Army and Colt Walker. They made a huge difference with cap jams, much better.
Nipple wrench
Richard A Roberts - 02/03/2022
I wanted to say that the nipple wrench they make is the best one I could find. I have several and this one is the best fit. I have not used the nipples yet but they are made very well.
Worthy upgrade
Thana - 02/01/2022
I replaced my Pietta Remington 58 nipples with Slixshot nipples when I used #11 cap . There is no more caps falling out, no need to pinch the caps to fit and no need to worry about chainfire from improperly seal caps. Great product, highly recommended
Everything I've been told is true
Douglas Manning - 01/28/2022
Brand new to black powder shooting. Caps are hard to find. All I was able to get were CCI #10s. Had a hard time getting them seated on the factory nipples. I'd get FTF about once per cylinder. Switched both revolvers out to SliXshot nipples and have had no problem. I have a Uberti G&G in route and I've already ordered a set to change out immediately. Why bother with the headache? This is a simple and effective solution.
